Encouraging NSF funding for Community Science

Community science and resilience workshop to support potential NSF funding track

On 7 October 2022 more than 200 community representatives, academics, non-profit leaders, and participants in community science convened to discuss suggestions for why and how the National Science Foundation (NSF) should launch a new track on Community Science, Citizen Science, and Community Resilience.

This track is one of several that NSF is considering for its convergence accelerator initiative. If the agency adopts our ideas, it would make tens of millions of dollars of funding available as early as 2023 to diverse, multi-sector, multi-discipline groups using citizen and community science to advance community resilience.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their thoughts and expertise to the workshop and the idea submission portal. The next steps are for the steering committee to develop the report for NSF that will include the advice, recommendations, and suggestions developed by the participants. When it is ready, we will share that report on this website.
